为喜迎建党百年，展示青春风采。由长春外国语学校高二年级组织，蓝雨文学社承办的“唇枪舌剑，辩中直面人生”主题辩论赛精彩落幕。本次辩论赛，本着“公平竞争、共进共赢”的原则，旨在锻炼同学们的思辨能力、观察能力、表达能力和团队合作精神，引导形成正向的价值观，培养长外学子的时政素养和家国情怀。以求于论辩中张扬长外学子风采，于思辨中营造长外博雅氛围，于活动中提升长外学子的“全球胜任力”及“全球领导力”。

To welcome the centennial of the party as well as to exhibit our flaming youth, a debate competition was held. Organized by the sophomores, undertaken by the Lanyu Literature Club, the debate competition with the theme of ‘Warfare of words, facing up the wall of life’ came to a splendid end. In line with the spirit of ‘compete in fairness, advance in synchronous’, this debate competition was aimed at sharpening our competence in critical thinking, observing and presenting likewise our team spirit, guiding the formation of positive values and cultivating the political literacy as well as the emotion of “Family-country” of fellow students from CFLS.

本次辩论赛高二年级全员参与。辩题从同学们中来，辩论才能走到同学们中去。本着“我辩论，我设题；我参与，我收获”的原则，赛会由征集辩题、初选辩题、公示辩题、择定辩题四道程序组成。初选为109个辩题，后经评审专家投票，公布了14个辩题，再经过各班班主任组织全班投票，择定了七个最终辩题。

Thoroughly engaged, all the Senior 2 students participated in and went all out for the debate. Only when students come up with their own issues can they immerse themselves in the debate. Therefore, in the spirit of ‘democratic topic selection; decentralised participation’，the selection of the debate topics consisted of four procedures: solicitation, initial selection, announcement and final selection of the propositions. Students wrote down their fondest ones. Since 109 topics were elected by the initial selection, after voting by evaluation experts, 14 topics were unveiled. After the class teachers organized the whole classes to vote, seven final debate topics were selected ultimately.

准备

一场辩论赛的成功举办，需要大量琐碎而繁杂的准备。除了场上熠熠生辉的辩手、主席、主持人，更需要场下默默奉献的场务、联络、组织、计时等工作人员。年级广泛招募辩论赛各层级的志愿者，同学们的积极参与，体现了长外学子蓬勃向上的精神面貌和良好的素质修养。各班通过班级内部的“模拟赛场”认真遴选，选送了最能代表本班论辩水平的四人战队参赛。赛程分为初赛、复赛、决赛三个阶段。八个辩论战队以抽签方式选择对手、场次及辩题。气势磅礴的语言大战即将打响！

A successful event takes all kinds of complicated and tiring preparation. Despite shinning individuals up stage,altruistic volunteers who devoted their time to preparatory work were regarded as the pillar of the competition. Students volunteered to shoulder the responsibility of ensuring smooth progress of the contest with passion and enthusiasm,depicting dynamic attitude as well as cracking moral cultivation of our flourishing school. Classes performed internal simulated debate scenarios for the selection of the final 4 debaters that would ultimately make the contest. It consists of three phases. Eight teams are assigned opponents and topics randomly. The great warfare of words is about to kick off!

初赛

初赛的对阵格局是：高二（1）vs高二（3）班、高二（2）班vs高二（5）班、高二（4）班vs高二（7）班、高二（6）班vs高二（8）班。初赛中，各参赛队伍深入挖掘辩题，充分准备论据。以智慧交锋，用思维碰撞，字句珠玑，宏辞论道。最终，其中四支参赛队伍脱颖而出，入围复赛。

Preliminary rounds consist of: Class 1 against Class 3, Class 2 against Class 5, Class 4 against Class 7, Class 6 against Class 8. During preliminary rounds, all participating teams dig deep into their topic, thoroughly preparing evidential information to back up their claims. Clashing in intelligence, colliding in knowledge, carefully prepared of every statement, not letting go a single phrase. Eventually, 4 of them got to proceed to semi-finals.

Group A

复赛

初赛选出的四支辩论战队于两天后参加复赛，辩题仍以抽签方式择定。他们的对阵格局是：高二（2）班vs高二（7）班、高二(1)班vs高二（6）班。复赛中，辩手们带着已有的赛场经验，以更加饱满的参赛状态，更详实且更具说服力的论据储备，妙语欲飞雪，雄辩落残星。

The four teams that passed through preliminary rounds were to be put through semi-finals two days later, topics are again selected randomly. The semi-finals consist of: Class 2 against Class 7, Class 1 against Class 6. Debaters, wielding their enhanced experience and knowledge as well as an even more perfected state of mind and comprehensive while convincing data, entered. With their awe-inducing language they touch the heavens, with their superior statements they collapse a dying star.

决赛

复赛五天后，决赛打响。其精彩纷呈，令人应接不暇。决赛的对阵格局是：高二（1）班vs高二（7）班。冥冥之中的这场文理对决中，八位辩手旁征博引，逻辑谨严，例证丰富，数据权威。唇枪舌剑、互不相让的同时，又气度从容、姿态贤雅。最终高二（7）班略胜一筹，夺得辩论赛的冠军。八位辩手们为全场奉献了一场高规格高水准高境界的视听盛宴。台下观众们在紧张而高涨的气氛中，也摩拳擦掌，跃跃欲试。

Five days after semi-finals, the finals kickstarted. Its brilliance busied people with comprehension. The finals consisted of but one match: Class 1 against Class 7. In this apparent by-fate duel of science against liberal arts students, eight debaters cite information from knowledge they’ve absorbed in the past few days, utilise their flawless logic and authoritative data, debated in a fierce but elegant manner. Eventually Class 7 came out on top and became the ultimate champion. Eight debaters presented a magnificent feast of both visual and acoustic treats. Members of the audience, in intense excitement, applauded the debaters.

决赛结束，高莹老师和迟超老师对比赛进行点评。高莹老师说：“辩论的意义是语言的建构和运用，思维的发展和提升。”提升辩论能力的根本就是要具备独立的思考和判断，要养成阅读和积累的习惯，这些才是质疑和批判的底气。希望大家多年以后回想起自己的青春年少，些许遗憾之外，更多的是骄傲和坦然。祝福大家成人季快乐！”迟超老师谈到：“成人并非生理年龄上的一夜长大，而重在心智上的一朝闻道。同学们在辩论会中展现出的观点交锋和思想碰撞，正是思想上成熟的必经之路。同时，同学们在辩论中有关外语学科的讨论发人深思，让我们更加明确了作为长外学子身上的重任。最后，他祝愿全体同学能够携梦前行，不负韶光，做中国故事的讲述者，做魅力中国的发言人！”

After the final, Miss Gao and Mr. Chi made comments on the competition. "The meaning of debate is the construction and application of language and the development and promotion of thinking," said Gao Ying. To improve the ability to debate is to have independent thinking and judgment, and to develop the habit of reading and accumulation, which is the foundation of questioning and criticism. I hope you will look back on your youth many years later, with a little regret, but more pride and calm. " Mr. Chi said, "Grown-ups don't grow up overnight in physical age, but in a single experience of the mind. The clash of ideas and the collision of ideas that the students showed in the debate is the only way to mature in thought. At the same time, the students' discussion about foreign language in the debate was thought-provoking, which made us more clear about the responsibility of students of CFLS. Finally, he wishes all the students can carry their dreams forward, live up to the time and become the storyteller of China and the spokesperson of a charming China!"

王昊校长带领各处室领导莅临辩论赛赛场，亲切地为同学们颁发了奖状。同学们的蓬勃朝气与青春热情得到了王昊校长充分的肯定和赞扬，在现场王校长发表了热情洋溢的讲话。他对高二年级的全体师生们说道：“很高兴同学们用辩论赛的活动来演绎我们的成人礼。在辩论中，思辨性思维无疑是最重要的。它要求我们具备冷静客观的批判性思维。现实中我们所掌握的任何一种观念，任何一种道理，都有其现实性，也都有其片面性，甚或有其歧视性。对这些观念道理的辨别及深入探讨，要求我们具备一种思维的技能和习惯——思辨性思考。每一次辩论都让我们的思想更真正地接近真理，都让我们成长道路上的每一步都散发着光芒。生逢其时，我们肩上的责任是重大的。责任在哪里，责任就是在我们的泱泱大国正当复兴，我们该做什么，我们该承担什么……同学们，走向世界，不是一句空话。走向世界需要我们思维的不断思辨，走向世界需要我们深刻地思考人生。我相信，从长外走出的每一个人，在你们今后的人生道路上，都将努力成为长外的点点星光。”辩以明理，启生达道。论以求知，以辩致远。长外2019级成人季之辩论赛圆满落下帷幕。

Principal Wang Hao, alongside other high-ups of the school, joined the audience in person. Principal Wang issued the certificates himself, complementing students for their powerful enthusiasm. He gave us a speech: I’m very glad that we were able to perform this debate as part of our Adulthood Ceremony. In debate, speculative thinking is undoubtedly crucial. It requires us to maintain a rational and critical thought process. Every proposal, every piece of knowledge, every thought or opinion, has some truth to it, but everything is, to some extent, one-sided, and sometimes, it might even display some sort of discrimination. To engage in debate involving these require some ability and good practice in thought. More specifically, it requires speculative thinking. Every debate brings us closer to the grand truth, brings about a brilliant halo to our steps in advancement. As people of this day and age, we bear heavy responsibility. What is it? It is the process of our motherland’s rejuvenation. What are we supposed to do, what are we supposed to bear… Children, advancement towards the world is definitely not just a saying. Doing so requires our continuous process of speculative thinking, requires our deep and comprehensive consideration of life choices. I believe that every CFLS’er out there will strive to become brilliant beams of starlight shining down on the CFLS.

我是以总负责人、主持人、组委会成员这三种身份参与到比赛中的。叠加的身份带来立体的收获。总负责人对接年级主任与各个职能部门，让我对沟通协调、组织管理、合作分工等有了全新的感性体验，一个个鲜活的人，一件件纷繁的事，厘清中超拔了个人的境界与素养。主持人对接舞台与观众，我尝试在端庄朗诵腔与幽默地气风之间切换，突破个人局限，变成更好的自我。组委会对接琐碎与繁杂，我倾力在包容度、缜密性、奉献值上锤炼自己，突破小我，让大我烛照心灵。感恩年级的信任，感动于同学们的热情，感激辩论赛的馈赠，感谢大长外的哺育与引领。期待明年学弟学妹们的辩论赛更加精彩！

I attended as the general manager, host, and member of the organizing committee. Combined duties bring three-dimensional gains. Being the general manager brings me the duty of integrating the event with the grade director's various functional departments, this experience enhanced my abilities in crew coordination, team management, and crew resource management. All those lively people against actual problems, the combined effort of a team superseding individual work. Integrating host with the stage and audience, I did my best to find the sweet spot between a formal speech and a humorous conversation, to break boundaries of the individual, and achieve a better self. Integration with the organizing committee is sophisticated, I dedicated myself to this task and refined myself in fields of tolerance, meticulousness, and dedication. I am truly grateful for the trust from everyone of senior 2, the enthusiasm of all our students, the gift of the debate, and the absolutely amazing support from the CFLS. I hope next year’s debate between the will-be senior 2 students be even more awesome and brilliant!

我最想感谢的是各位校领导和各位老师，没有他们的鼎力支持，就不会有这样精彩的舞台去展示我们自己。通过一场场激烈的辩论，我不仅锻炼了自己的胆识，敢于在众人面前表达自己的观点，更懂得了团队精神的重要——辩论从不是孤军奋战，而是群策群力的体现。最重要的是，在一次次深入辩题的过程中，我逐渐明晰了自己的人生方向，真正做到了“辩中直面人生”。

I really want to thank every school leader and teacher. Without their support, there won’t be such an awesome platform for me to debate upon. Through every exchange, not only did I strengthen my guts and became more capable of expressing my opinions to people, but also got a better understanding of team spirit----debate was never a task to be performed by an individual, it is the manifest of teamwork. What’s more important is, through every dive into the topic, I slowly understood more and more about my way of life, and actually achieved the slogan of ‘facing up the wall of life’.

This is my first time participating in such a contest. Even though our journey abruptly ended in the preliminary rounds, the experience of preparation and the actual debate really taught us a lot. From the gathering of materials and referencing past debates for ideas, to actually expressing them during the debate, colliding with the opponents’ mental model……all of these help me break through the service ceiling of our wielding of words. The only way to understand the awesomeness and touchingness of this is to experience it in person. No matter what, I am grateful that I was given this chance to do this.

This debate is not only part of the ceremonial process of the Adulthood Ceremony, but also a challenge of youth. To the individual debater, be it pre-contest anxiety, or the rapid processing during the contest, all of that leaves a deep impression in my heart. We feel the power of youth as well as the responsibilities and thought process of us as youngsters during this process. Mr. Lu Xun once said: ‘May the Chinese youths break free of coldness. The only way is up…do everything you can do; say everything you can say. Possess your internal energy, radiate it off as light.’ And now, hopefully we can internalise the energy of the Earth, aim for the far and wide, be the youths of the new age.

The comprehensive knowledge, healthy psychological status, and professional debating skillset of the debaters made me, as the host, marvel at the talent of the students of the CFLS. From the president to the debaters, from the preliminary round to the final round, the collision of mental model and mental model in this hot summer day stimulated the students' thought process and left a good memory for this summer! While I admire the wonderful performance of the debaters, I also thank the teachers and students for their hard work.

能够在辩论赛中担任主席一职，我深感荣幸，同时也深知肩负着很多责任。作为主席，我应该有着掌控全局的心怀态度，有着协调平衡的考量操守，而这些都是我之前欠缺的。通过这次活动的历练，在老师同学们的帮助下，我逐渐弥补了这些方面的欠缺，因此，我十分感激这次辩论赛带给我的收获。

I am honoured to be the president of the debate tournament, but I am also aware of the many responsibilities I have. As the president, I should have the attitude of controlling the whole situation and the ethics of coordination and balance, which I lacked before. Through the experience of this event and with the help of my teachers and classmates, I have gradually made up for these deficiencies, so I am very grateful for what this debate competition has brought me.

What impressed me most about this debate was not only the moment of awarding the prize, but the intense preparation process of the debaters and the collision of ideas on the field. Although we were only working behind the scenes for the debate, we still benefited a lot from the process. First of all, we need to express our gratitude: towards the school, student office and all of the grade’s teachers’ contribution to this event, their effort in helping students find their standpoint and express their opinion is invaluable. Next it is to say how moved I am! All of the participating teams demonstrated unparalleled teamwork by pooling their collective wisdom, working together in preparation, performing excellent crew resource management and giving their best during the debate. Finally, remarks. We’re lucky to be championed again in this tournament. Before every round, our debaters carefully went over their arguments and thoroughly tested them against each other, iteration after iteration. This not only demonstrated the logical abilities of science students but also improved them along the way. ‘Our next generation is respectable, keen to learn and ready to be taught.’ I hope all our children get to obtain their best memories in this adulting time. Grow towards the sun and strive to advance!
